Elopements are so much fun to photograph because the couples are generally so laid back, putting the focus on the fun and simple parts of the day. And whenever I get to photograph in Custer State Park in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, you know I’m on cloud nine.
Hannah and Sam were those people who you can immediately tell vibe together. A sweet and easy going couple that wanted photographs in some of their favorite spots (which also happen to my favorite spots) in the hills. The morning light was strong and beautiful and we lucked out because hey, it is South Dakota and we could have had a foot of snow!

I took a black and white series from the pig tail bridges on Iron Mountain Road. A little dance in the sunshine and shadows with a slower shutter speed to provide that feeling of romance and motion.
The Custer State Park tunnels never disappoint and we had plenty of tourists slow down not only to see the famous faces on Mount Rushmore, but to wish the couple their best.

This elopement was brought to you by the couple’s adorable four-legged family members who were along for the whole ride. The morning culminated in a beautiful ceremony and family picnic to follow at the same spot Sam and Hannah went on their first hike together. What a fantastic wedding to document, thank you Hannah and Sam for having me.
