To All The Mothers is a creative project where women can be seen in their strength and in their struggle. A space where the definition of “mother” expands to biological mothers, adoptive mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, mother-figures, and women who mother in ways that don’t fit a traditional mold.
Through portraiture and storytelling, this project aims to:
Honor the invisible labor and emotional weight mothers carry
Give voice to the mental health realities woven into motherhood
Celebrate the resilience, humor, and humanity of moms in our community
Create a legacy piece that reflects the diversity of motherhood in the Black Hills
In 2027, these stories and portraits will come together in a calendar that features these mothers in portraiture and writing and serves as a daily reminder of the women who shape us, raise us, challenge us, and love us — often without recognition.
This if for you
We’re Audrey and Angela ~ two mothers, creatives, and community‑driven women who believe that every mom’s story deserves to be seen and honored.
This project was born from our own experiences navigating the beauty and the heaviness of motherhood. We’ve lived the identity shifts, the mental health battles, the joy that cracks you open, and the quiet moments that change everything.
Together, we’re creating a space where mothers in the Black Hills can be witnessed through portraiture, storytelling, and truth.
Audrey is the Executive Director of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Black Hills. Mother to Wilder (8), Audrey enjoys spending time xxxxxxxxx.
Angela is the owner of Angela Pierson Photography and a local business consultant. Mother to Sawyer (18) and Asher (14), Angela enjoys spending time gardening, listening to live music and camping with her husband and kids.
To All The Mothers will feature twelve Black Hills mothers through photography and written word. The project will culminate in an art exhibit and 2027 calendar. We invite the community to submit nominees for the project. The selected mothers will be asked to share a written piece for the project. This could be a letter she writes to herself, the nomination letter that helped her get selected for the project, a poem, a letter from her own mother, a narrative that captures the truth of her experience…whatever speaks to her. Our 12 mothers will then be scheduled for a professional photoshoot to create the images that will grace our 2027 To All The Mothers Calendar. Proceeds from any calendar sales will be donated to a local non-profit that supports mothers in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
This project exists to show motherhood in all its forms. We aim to share the unfiltered version, the unpolished version. We aim to create a project that is real, complicated, breathtaking all at the same time. Together we will show:
The joy.
The exhaustion.
The identity shifts.
The mental health battles no one talks about.
The tenderness.
The grief.
The pride.
The generational stories we carry and the ones we’re rewriting.
